Class Level Details

  • Taking the time to understand the basics thoroughly not only sets you up for success in more advanced topics but also gives you a deeper understanding overall. It's like building a strong foundation for your knowledge house! Each concept or skill you master becomes a “stepping” stone to more advanced knowledge and abilities. So, indeed, never underestimate the importance of mastering the basics—it's the key to unlocking greater understanding and proficiency. Every step along the way matters. Your instructors at The Rhythm Lounge work hard to create a cohesive, technique driven course. Our instructors are out studying the dance and working hard on their dancing to provide wonderful information for you that is rooted in history and technique and also current following the trends in our modern west coast swing global community.

Current Beginner syllabus to include, but not limited to, the following: side passes, sugar pushes, starter steps, triple steps, partner connection, timing, intro to musicality, and more

  • This class is designed to build upon your foundations and we ask that people know what is listed in the Beginner syllabus / curriculum. Please know how to dance the following prior to class: sugar push, passes, whip, sugar tuck starter step.

This focus of this class will be to build upon your strong foundations while introducing new material, so dancers can continually improve their skills and keep their social dancing fresh and exciting. Learning new skills adds an element of excitement and growth to the experience and this class is a fantastic opportunity for dancers to expand their repertoire and refine their abilities.

  • Comfortable with the basic 6 count & 8 count rhythms and moves and have likely been dancing lindy hop for a couple of months. Please know basic lindy circle, tuck turn, passes, and send-out, and maybe a swingout.

This class will dive deeper into smoothing out your transitions between rhythms and add more flow to your dancing. Our goal is to help you do what you do even better and to make it feel good and look good. We want you to develop strong fundamentals and feel your dancing is evolving.

  • Must be comfortable with mixing rhythms, swingouts, circles, classic jazz steps, and basic understanding of partnership connection and jazz music structure. You’ve likely been taking Lindy Hop classes and social dancing a consecutive 12+ months. You are comfortable with us calling out the moves to do as a warm-up and doing them with your partner or solo. If we say “show me a swingout, swingout, swingout, circle, and into some charleston, you are ready to go.

This class is a challenging class to give your dancing a little extra push. We do not expect people to master all the nitty-gritty each week that is presented in class because we know you will practice and come back with questions ;) We will move at a faster pace than our other classes.
